Take a look at some of the work below from Room 2 students below.
Mrs Turnbull has taken a lot of time and effort to create this wonderful display
Room 2 students should be very proud of their improvements in writing - well done

WRITING WIZARDS

In 2012 a group of students who show interest and potential in writing, were selected to form a group to participate in fun activities involving writing.  They chose to name themselves 'The Writing Wizards.'
The names of wizards are - Nick, Brock, Bryce, Sally, Jess, Holly 1 and Holly 2, Zahli, Eleni, Mackenzie, Kiara, Dana, Vi, Josie, Hayleigh, Jayden, Brandon and Cody.

The first event that they are running, is a Writer of the Week competition, open to all students.
They filmed a commercial inviting students to take part and displayed posters around the school.
In groups of 3, each week they sort through the writing entries, complete feedback certificates and judge a winning entry.  They look for appropriate use of writing techniques including ideas, grammar and punctuation.  They film a segment announcing the who was the winner and post it on that week's video blurb.  They also present the winner with a small prize.

Stay tuned for details of winners ...

RPS Literacy Parent Infofrmation Night

On Tuesday 27th March 2012, Renmark Primary School held a Literacy Information Evening from 6 30 to 8 30pm.
Over 40 students and 10 teachers were involved in presenting sessions showcasing some of the things that we do in Lteracy at RPS.
Students delivered the workshops which included topics on Spelling, Writing, Reading and Thrass.
A yummy supper provided by Mr Sluggett and some members of the SRC was enjoyed at the conclusion of the evening.  Families were also presented with a goodie bag of Literacy tools that can be used at home.
Lyn Bretag, Principal commented on how wonderful it was that so many families came to support their childrens' learning in Literacy.

Jess, Dana, Josh, Kalliopi and Aiden ready for their session

In their session, they became the teachers!

Literacy Focus Group

Late in 2011, a group of teachers interested in continued improvement of Literacy at RPS decided to meet regularly to examine current practice and look further afield to see what other schools were doing.

They took a close look at current Accelerated Literacy (AL) Pedagogy, using a TfEL lens (Teaching for Effective Learning) which highlighted how thorough the AL pegagogy is.

They also decided to design a RPS Literacy Statement, to present all of the Literacy practices at Renmark in one document.
This took many weeks of investigation and includes ideas from the  Literacy Secretariat Literacy Improvement Model and the Australian Curriculum.  It was finally presented to staff in mid Ter One, who decided to adopt the statement at our school. (See picture below)

Literacy Focus Group of the LFG, also designed a Genre Map for 2012, as our existing map was dated and did not cater for current approaches and needs.  See picture below
